Nho Que river & Tu San alley

Explore the deepest canyon in Southeast Asia, located in Ha Giang, where boat operations have recently ceased.

The reason for the cessation of boat trips is that the Tu San Agricultural and Service Cooperative—the sole provider of boat tours on the Nho Que River—has not yet finalized a temporary plan for managing inland waterway transport for tourists. Additionally, due to the Nho Que 1 hydroelectric reservoir, a passenger transportation contract with Nho Que 1 Joint Stock Company has not been signed or extended.

As a result, visitors are currently unable to take boat tours on the Nho Que River to view Tu San Canyon, one of the most breathtaking and romantic landscapes in the Northwest.

The Nho Que River originates in the Yunnan mountains of China and enters Vietnam at Seo Lung Village in Lung Cu Commune, Dong Van District, Ha Giang. Stretching approximately 46 kilometers, the river winds through the dramatic landscape of the Dong Van Rock Plateau. Its course is characterized by a powerful current that navigates through rugged, jagged rocks, creating a series of thrilling white-water rapids. This dynamic flow carves through the mountainous terrain, adding to the river’s striking beauty and enhancing its role as a vital natural feature in the region.

The first part of the river flowing from Lung Cu through Tu San Alley is considered the most grogeous and captivating section

In the stretch of Ma Pi Leng Pass adjacent to Tu San Abyss Alley, the Nho Que River reveals its most breathtaking beauty. Unlike the tumultuous sections with rushing white-water rapids, this portion of the river flows with a serene and gentle grace. The waters are calm and tranquil, reflecting the surrounding majestic cliffs and lush greenery. This peaceful segment of the river offers a striking contrast to the more turbulent areas, allowing visitors to fully appreciate the river’s stunning landscape and the quietude of its environment.

Since then you can take a boat journey down the river and explore Tu San Alley Southeast Asias deepest canyon

When is the best time to visit the Nho Que River ?

While the Nho Que River can be visited year-round, the optimal time to experience its beauty is from mid-September to November. This period aligns with the harvest season and the blooming of buckwheat flowers, which adds vibrant colors to the surrounding landscape and enhances the river’s scenic charm. The fields are lush, and the buckwheat flowers create a stunning contrast against the rugged backdrop, making for spectacular photos and a more immersive experience.

It’s advisable to avoid visiting during the rainy season, particularly when typhoons are prevalent, as heavy rains can muddy the river’s usually clear, green waters. During rainy days, the river may lose its pristine color, affecting the overall visual appeal. Planning your visit outside these weather conditions will ensure you enjoy the river at its most picturesque and fully appreciate the natural beauty of the Nho Que River and its
